{"id":8,"date":"2010-09-14T21:35:28","date_gmt":"2010-09-14T21:35:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vancouverdatenight.com\/?p=8"},"modified":"2010-09-25T22:57:44","modified_gmt":"2010-09-26T05:57:44","slug":"summer-night-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.vancouverdatenight.com\/?p=8","title":{"rendered":"Summer Night Market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Okay, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s officially fall but Sunday night Peter and I decided to check out the Summer Night Market in Richmond.\u00c2\u00a0 I remember going a few years ago when it was the Richmond Night Market and had a vague recollection of it being kind of lame\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6.sort of like going to a massive dollar store that served noodles.\u00c2\u00a0 But the market has grown up since then.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We arrived later in the evening (around 9pm). \u00c2\u00a0Even though it was dark when we arrived, it was still super busy.\u00c2\u00a0 We paid for parking at the Home Depot lot ($5) and walked there.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 You have to walk a few blocks to get to the market \u00e2\u20ac\u201c so, gals, wear your comfy shoes.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 It feels weird to be trudging around an industrial area late at night but just follow the crowds and you will get there!\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The market looked beautiful lit up in the dark. \u00c2\u00a0Admission is free so we just<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vancouverdatenight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/glowinglanterns.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-9\" title=\"glowinglanterns\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vancouverdatenight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/glowinglanterns-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Lantern kiosk\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-9\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Latern kiosk<\/p><\/div>\n<p>wandered in.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0Inside the market are a lot of food and vendor stands.\u00c2\u00a0 We chose to do some \u00e2\u20ac\u0153window shopping\u00e2\u20ac\u009d first and began wandering the rows of merchandize stands.\u00c2\u00a0 There you can buy everything from cell phone covers, to underwear to Korean Karaoke discs.\u00c2\u00a0 Anything cheap and sparkly seemed to fly off the shelf.\u00c2\u00a0 Bling is your friend if you are a vender at the Night Market. \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During our wanders, we stumbled upon a fantastic busker named Dynamite.\u00c2\u00a0 We rarely stay and watch a busker\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s full<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vancouverdatenight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/dynamitebusker.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-10\" title=\"dynamitebusker\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vancouverdatenight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/dynamitebusker-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-10\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dynamite the busker was dynamite!!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>act but this guy was so good at audience patter we couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t help but stay and watch.\u00c2\u00a0 He juggled and did acrobatics \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and by the end he was riding a 10 foot tall unicycle in his underwear &#8211; so much fun.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Next we wandered off in search of snacks\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6in the centre of the market, there are stands selling a variety of street food (most are yummy Asian based fare).\u00c2\u00a0 As a note,\u00c2\u00a0 I am very picky about eating street food (Pete on the other hand has a caste iron stomach will<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vancouverdatenight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/food-stand.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-11\" title=\"food stand\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vancouverdatenight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/food-stand-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yummy!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>eat anything, anywhere) .\u00c2\u00a0 I was relieved to know that all stalls are inspected for food safety.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 We decided to share everything we ordered in order to sample a bigger variety.\u00c2\u00a0 By the end of the evening we had consumed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chinese dumplings (pork dumplings with a nice sauce inside)<\/li>\n<li>Hurricane Fries (a single potato swirled on a stick with sauce)<\/li>\n<li>Pork and chicken skewers<\/li>\n<li>Dragon Beard candy (a sweet light sugar and flour delicacy)<\/li>\n<li>Squid (Pete loved it; not for me!)<\/li>\n<li>Mango bubble tea\n<p><div id=\"attachment_12\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vancouverdatenight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/deep-fried-oreos.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-12\" title=\"deep fried oreos\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vancouverdatenight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/deep-fried-oreos-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mollie&#39;s Mini Delights aka deep fried oreo heaven<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n<li>Deep fried Oreos.\u00c2\u00a0 (Amazing!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By the end of the night, we were very full.\u00c2\u00a0 While eating, we wandered around and listened to the live music in the main stage area.
